Reservoir Media Buys Billy Strayhorn’s Publishing Catalog |
Reservoir Media has acquired the publishing catalog of the jazz composer Billy Strayhorn, best known for “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Lush Life,” “Chelsea Bridge,” and “Satin Doll.” Reservoir will also share in his name, image, and likeness rights alongside his estate. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The deal deepens a relationship with Billy Strayhorn Songs, Inc. that goes back to 2014, when Reservoir picked up part of the catalog in a larger acquisition and later helped mark the composer’s 2015 centennial. Strayhorn worked with Duke Ellington from 1939 until his death in 1967, was openly gay, and campaigned for civil rights alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and Bayard Rustin.
